2016 was a year of milestones for us. We announced our Series B funding round led by the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, added more than 50 new partners to the Andela family, and received more than 23,000 applications from aspiring Andela Developers.
It’s no surprise that Andela Developers continued to make an impact far beyond our walls, doing everything from giving talks at Harvard Business School (Leke Togun) to chatting with Fareed Zakaria on CNN (Tolu Komolafe). We hosted a total of 43 workshops, hackathons and conferences, and our developers contributed to 173 open source projects on GitHub.
Throughout 2016, we hosted more than 500 visitors at our campuses in Lagos and Nairobi, connecting our developers with the top programmers and startup leaders in the world. In addition to Mark Zuckerberg himself, our guests included programming legend Kent Beck, Y Combinator Partners Michael Seibel and Qasar Younis, and 500 Startups Venture Partner Monique Woodard.
As we kick off 2017, we’re excited to continue making strides in our efforts to build the next generation of technology leaders and can’t wait to continue partnering with you to make this happen. In the meantime, check out the infographic below for other key stats from the past year:
